Hi, I'm Imani.
I'm a handbuilding ceramic artist based in New York.
Pottery found me in 2021 while I was living in a sublet apartment in Flatbush. Around that time, I stumbled across Seth Rogen's pottery videos on YouTube, bought a bag of air-dry clay, set up an IKEA GLADOM table as my workspace, and became completely hooked.
After exploring both wheel throwing and handbuilding, I realized that handbuilding was where I felt most at home. I love the simplicity of it—the direct connection between my hands and the clay, and the freedom to create at my own pace.
Working with clay has taught me to embrace uncertainty, let go of perfection, and appreciate the beauty of unexpected outcomes. I think of pottery not as a healing practice, but as a softening one.It softens my need for certainty and control, and reminds me to be patient, present, and open to whatever unfolds.
Inspired by playfulness, everyday rituals, my home New York, and the objects that make a home feel lived in and loved, I create functional ceramics with personality, meant to be used and enjoyed every day.
